GURUPURNIMA 2015

Ved Vyas Jayanti is celebrated as Guru Purnima throughout our country. The Guru is the one who leads us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. Our ancient scriptures treat the Mother as our very first guru. Children should be taught to respect their parents. Keeping this principle in mind, Guru Purnima is celebrated in Amrita Vidyalayams as an occasion to give respect to one’s parents. Along with this, it is also an opportunity for millions to revere Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi who is the living example of a Satguru.

Guru Purnima was celebrated on July 14th, 2015 in our Amrita Vidyalayam under the guidance of Br. Akshayamrita Chaithanya. He began the celebrations by quoting Adi Shankara’s verse which describes the great pain that a mother undergoes before giving birth to her child. Children offered Padapuja to their parents while chanting mantras and lighting camphor. This was followed by Guru Padapuja. In an atmosphere reverberating with mantras revering the Great Guru, Amma, everyone sang bhajans with much vigour and enthusiasm. Later, prasad was distributed to all.

Celebrations like this really help to restore values that are declining and disappearing from society.
